Through the looking glass

It was apparently said that you couldn't proceed with Nazi Holocaust research unless at a German spa town or at a Swiss sanatorium. You couldn't use the word 'prisoner' or 'hostage' to describe such a researcher, it might cause offence. 

But the Agency had spent many decades purchasing influence within powerful American families, its efforts couldn't be jeopardised. Also, the Vatican was often restless about who was researching what on the Holocaust, though strangely enough, Antara kept it informed. 

It was like Antara already knew how the truths would line up, one after the other.

The source of the Nazi Holocaust was known to the lease family but hardly discussed. Europe had taken a collective decision to convert to Roman Catholicism, in order to altogether reduce the clout of the German Protestants. Europe was even willing to bear the heavy-handedness of Moscow's behaviour, for it had seen the future. The so-called 'foreign intelligence' agency of the US, buying up powerful American families, and then trading with Indian royals for influence, within an Indian setting. 

The above scenario, Europe would not be able to tolerate.

The lease family had not been the focus, for it had become an international upheaval of such strength and intensity that the lease family's best intelligence outfits were not being able to explain what Dwarkanath had devised. What had Dwarkanath planned for, what was so crooked, so amoral, so ruthless?

At such times of crisis (the decades preceding the Nazi Holocaust), utter confusion prevailed. The French gave up on their underground royal intelligence, all corrupted by the Tagores, they said. The lease family altogether shunned the British, even the worst of the legit leases signed had better morality than what the British were offering.

(If the United States became isolated because of Agency activities, if its military became insecure, then France and the lease family would take the blame.)

ii. What was the reason for such crisis? The NRIs, to be sure, for the NRI phenomenon had been misunderstood. No matter how they were chosen, the NRIs in the United States were supposed to behave like Dwarkanath's militia, learning about events from several centuries ago, using local resources like libraries and museums and historical foundations. 

But Antara's lease discussions were mostly about Islamism and the 9/11 attacks, or Artificial Intelligence and Sam Altman, and although there were NRI techies, the bulk of them were not equipped to handle such discussions. That was when the Agency was called in, because the NRIs were not being able to manage.

Antara could thus have taken a stricter, more strident stance about the Pentagon coup. At the worst of times, Washington DC had abundant military intelligence, it would help Indians lead their lives, and because of our globalised lives, Indians were used to picking up such hints. 

If it became necessary, there might be 'themed discussions' of the Pentagon coup on Antara's blog, what Antara found worrying but what she was being unable to prevent.
